Tiny Living for the Creative Soul

Style Concept: Airy and Joyful
400 SF | Chelsea, New York | Gut Renovation Furnishing and Styling
This small studio was a gloomy old apartment with beat up dark wood floors, and a low arched partition dividing the entrance from the main space. The first point of action of this tiny renovation was to take down the arched partition, which instantly enabled light to shine throughout the space evenly.

The tile floor surrounding the kitchen was replaced with wood floor to gain a clean continuous flow. Additional light and air were gained by avoiding the lowering of the ceiling, and integrating elegant white track lights combined with a central round pendant above the living area. By appointing different light fixtures we were able to create a subtle definition of the different functions of the space.

The kitchenette was transformed into a funky yet elegant cooking niche, with honeycomb matt finished light grey backsplash to balance the dramatic dark grey ceaser stone countertop. A butcher bar was built for an additional working space as well as an ideal breakfast spot. Matt black bathroom fixtures were selected to give a serious edge to the funky graphic black and white floor tile.

Furnishing and styling this space was a super fun challenge. The size and budget were what guided the selection of the couch bed and desk. We made up for a relatively simple design by using bright colors and rich textures. My favorite was the all-purpose round yellow table tying everything together.
