A Generic Home for the Urban Inhabitant
Style Concept: Modern Edge Warmth
550 SF | Chelsea NYC | Gut Renovation
A second project nearly a year after the first of an ex-textile factory building in the heart of Chelsea NYC. The client loved what we did with an identical space a few floors up and was determined to get the same end product with a lower material budget.
We exposed the full height of the ceilings allowing the original beams to divide the newly opened space. We were able to achieve efficient storage solutions, a bright airy layout while staying on the lower end of price ranges. A great example of how we got creative with the budget challenge was a free standing fridge with a custom made niche around it, as opposed to using the high end expensive built in fridge, which knocked off about 5K from the appliances. The kitchen cabinets were locally crafted and the plumbing fixtures are brand name affordable shiny chrome finish.
This design challenge was sealed off with natural and smooth oak floors along with dark bold light fixtures above the bar, allowing for a sophisticated contrast and a true blank canvas for the urban inhabitant to style and furnish.
